Warm weather, fewer crowds than Easter. Great for families wanting sunshine without the summer heat.

Getting hot but still manageable. Better value than July/August with slightly lower crowds.

Very Busy

Summer Holidays

Jul 18–Sep 1
Temp: 35°C+Value: Most expensive

Peak season across the board. Expect long queues, high prices, and intense heat. Daily thunderstorms.

Moderate

October Half-Term

Oct 26–30
Temp: ~27°CValue: Great choice!

Warm and pleasant, Halloween events at all parks, moderate crowds. A favourite for UK families.

Peak

Christmas Holidays

Dec 19–Jan 2
Temp: 18–22°CValue: Peak pricing

The parks are magical at Christmas but extremely busy. Cooler temperatures make full park days easier.

Best Value Tip

What UK Kids Need to Know

Height Requirements

Parks list heights in inches and centimetres. Key thresholds: 102cm (40") for most big coasters, 112cm (44") for the biggest rides, 122cm (48") for a few extreme coasters. Measure your kids before you go so there are no tears at the gate!

Sun Protection

The Florida sun is MUCH stronger than the UK. Factor 50 minimum, reapply every 2 hours (set a phone timer). Hats and UV-protective clothing for younger children. Sunburn can ruin a day — take it seriously.

Hydration & Heat

Carry refillable water bottles. All counter-service restaurants provide free cups of ice water — just ask. In summer, plan for pool/villa breaks between 1–4pm when the heat is fiercest.

Afternoon Thunderstorms

From May to September expect a daily downpour, usually between 2–5pm. Storms last 30–60 minutes then clear completely. Pack ponchos (cheaper than buying in the parks) and use storms as a break.

Tipping Culture

This catches most British families out. Tip 18–20% at sit-down restaurants (it's expected, not optional). $1–2 per bag for bell staff. Counter service and fast food: no tip needed.

Portion Sizes

American portions are typically 2–3x UK sizes. Younger children can often share an adult meal or order from the kids' menu (usually available up to age 9). This saves a fortune on food.

Top Parks for UK Families

Ranked by overall experience for British families visiting Orlando.

1

Magic Kingdom

Essential for first-timers

The classic Disney experience. Cinderella Castle, Space Mountain, fireworks. Every family needs at least 2 days here.

2

Universal Studios + Islands of Adventure

Harry Potter!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter spans both parks. Ride the Hogwarts Express between them. British kids go absolutely wild for this.

3

Epic Universe

Brand new for 2025

Universal's newest park featuring Nintendo World, a new Harry Potter area, and more. The biggest new theme park in decades.

4

EPCOT

World Showcase mini world tour

Walk around 11 countries in World Showcase, enjoy future-tech rides, and sample food from around the world. Great for older kids.

5

SeaWorld Orlando

Underrated, less crowded

Excellent coasters, animal encounters, and significantly shorter queues than Disney or Universal. Brilliant value.

Must-Know Tips for Brits

Plug Adapters & Voltage

US uses Type A/B plugs at 110V. Phone and laptop chargers work fine with just an adapter. Hair straighteners and hairdryers may not work properly or could be damaged — buy a cheap one there or check yours is dual-voltage (110–240V).

Phone & Data

Most UK networks now include USA roaming (Three, Vodafone, EE). Check your plan before you go. Alternatively, grab a US SIM at the airport or a Walmart — T-Mobile prepaid works well for 2 weeks.

Driving Tips

Drive on the right! Turning right on a red light is legal (and expected) unless signed otherwise. Roads are wide and well-signed. A UK licence is valid — no international permit needed.

Grocery Shopping

Publix, Walmart, and Target are your best bets. A big Walmart shop on day one stocking breakfasts, snacks, and water will save hundreds over 2 weeks compared to eating out every meal.

Shopping & Outlets

Orlando Premium Outlets on International Drive has massive discounts on brand clothing — Nike, Levi's, Ralph Lauren, Under Armour often 50–70% off UK high street prices. Budget a half-day.

Portion Sizes & Dining

Portions are huge — easily share meals with kids. Breakfast at the villa saves the most. Fast-food restaurants like Chick-fil-A and Wendy's are much better quality than UK equivalents.
